Granada Region
It is often said that if you only see one city in Spain you should see GRANADA.
Amongst the many bewitching monuments in the city of Granada is the fantastic Alhambra Palace, perched on the top of a hill this Moorish Palace boast arabesque and Islamic calligraphy the like of which is not enjoyed in any other monument in the entire Islamic world.
This magnificent building plays host too many performances as part of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance. These mainly occur in the months of June and July. Other performances can be seen in the civic centres, churches, chapels, clubs and cafes.
The province of Granada is truly an Aladdin’s cave of Moorish treasures. From the winding streets of the Albaicin, the Islamic Quarter nested beneath the Alhambra, to the imposing cathedral, the Capilla Real, where the bodies of Ferdinand V and Isabella 1 of Castile are interned; there are so many things to discover.
The average temperature is 15c *(73f) which means, as the mean altitude is 662m above sea level there is a good supply of snow to keep the skiing fraternity happy.
Although the population is a modest 790,000 the province experiences over 2.5 million visitors a year.
This University City also has 3 football teams and boasts many historical figures, which includes the world renowned Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca
(1898-1936).
